
Thermal Evaporation Coating Unit
Thermal Evaporation is a well-known method for coating a thin layer in which the source material evaporates in a vacuum due to high temperature heating. The evaporated material traverses the vacuum chamber with thermal energy and coats the substrate.
Vacuum coating units or Laboratory coating units are experimental set ups used in R&D labs/ Universities or individual’s experimental needs.
Electron Beam Gun

Electron gun is defined as the source of focused and accelerated electron beam. Just as thermal evaporation, the materials can also be melted by an electron beam. An ion beam gun is added inside the chamber, directed to the surface of the component to be coated. It requires a high-voltage supply and cooling water feedthrough.

Electron Beam Gun is a 180o Bent Beam device developed at THIN FILM LABORATORY, Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi. It consists of :

An Electron Beam Source.

A permanent magnet to provide a magnetic field to bent the beam by 180o and focus it.

A water cooled copper/stainless steel hearth to contain the materials to be evaporated.

Single hearth, spherical indentation about 10 to 12 mm diameter and 3 to 4 mm deep.
Vacuum Station

VICO vacuum stations provide a general-purpose high vacuum facility around the laboratory and can be useful for a variety of applications. These are particularly recommended for obtaining vacuum in the range of 1×10−6 Mbar, without indulging in the complicacies of design and fabrication of a vacuum system.
It is simply designed, fully instrumented and housed on mobile Frame. The unit is complete in itself can be straightaway connected to the experimental set-up. The different components are matched together carefully to give efficient reliable and trouble free service. The unit incorporates the following:

A Diffusion pump with a Baffle valve.

A Direct drive double stage oil sealed rotary vacuum pump for backing and roughing.

LN2 trap, if required.

A set of pirani-penning vacuum gauges for vacuum measurement are provided.

Vacuum plumbing with valves etc.

High Vacuum port. A top closing plate, equal to the diameter of the High Vacuum valve is supplied with the system.
Thermal Evaporation Coating Units

The ‘VICO’ SS Bell-jar (VCU) vacuum coating unit offers a superior equipment required to satisfy the particular requirements. The unit is useful for wide variety of applications including demonstration of coating techniques using Thermal Evaporation.
The system are used for laboratory and experimental set ups in R&D Labs, Universities or individual experimental needs.

A stainless steel chamber, water-cooled if substrate heating is required.

The unit comes with water-cooled diffusion pump and mechanical rotary pump.

Suitable LT Transformers and variable transformers are provided, with provision of Ion-bombardment facility, if required.

A set of pirani-penning vacuum gauges for vacuum measurement are provided and DFTM (Digital Film Thickness Monitor), if required.

The unit can be customised as per user’s requirement for multi-coatings, using boats or crucibles and EB Gun.
